WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Mike Donovan has joined UNCW’s Seahawk Club staff as an assistant director and will serve as an annual fund specialist, focusing on leadership annual giving and assisting with day-to-day operations.
A native of Chesapeake, Va., Donovan was a lettermen in baseball and men’s basketball at VMI before embarking on his career in administration.
“Mike has a unique appreciation for our mission because of his time as a student-athlete” said Adam Fearing, executive director of UNCW’s Seahawk Club. “He comes to us with solid fundraising experience and his well-rounded experience will be beneficial to our staff.
“It was clear in the interview process that he knows the importance of building relationships with our Seahawk Club members. We look forward to utilizing his perspective and creativity and know he will be a great fit for our staff.”
Donovan played three years on the VMI baseball team and walked on to the Keydets’ men’s basketball team during his senior year.
Donovan then served as assistant director of admissions at VMI for one year before accepting a position as graduate assistant for development at VCU in Richmond, Va. He assisted in the fundraising process for several capital campaign and privately funded projects through the Ram Athletic Fund.
In June of 2017, Donovan joined the UNC Educational Foundation and worked with the Rams Club as a development intern. He helped the annual fund reach its highest number of members and most new members in a single year.
“I’m thrilled and elated to join the Seahawk Club and the family at UNCW,” said Donovan. “I look forward to getting the year started and continuing to build on the success that Adam and his staff have had. I’m thankful for this opportunity and proud to be a Seahawk.”
Donovan earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Business from VMI in 2015 and completed his Masters of Education from VCU’s Center for Sport Leadership in 2017.
