The Wilmington City Council will meet on Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Items of interest on the agenda include:
Presentation of the Annual Tree Awards by the Wilmington Tree Commission. These annual awards recognize outstanding tree preservation, landscapes, commitment to tree maintenance and reforestation. Wilmington has been named as a Tree City USA for the past 15 years and has received the prestigious Tree City USA Growth Award for the past 13 years. Last year, the city planted almost 200 trees in public areas.
Consideration of standby contracts for debris management, recovery and removal services in the event of a powerful storm that generates excessive debris. The city maintains this type of contract so debris removal can be expedited after a storm.
Along with public hearings on several proposed rezonings, there will be a public hearing on the recommended city budget for fiscal year 2018-19. By state law, the city must have an approved, balanced budget by June 30. Council is expected to have the first of two votes on the budget at their June 5 meeting, and a final vote at their June 19 meeting. Click here to see highlights of the recommended budget.
