On Saturday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m., the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees will plant 33 trees on South 10th Street between Dawson and Meares streets in the Jervay community. Also participating will be the Wilmington Tree Commission, Cape Fear Garden Club, UNCW students and residents of the neighborhood. Several native species of trees will be planted. The event will help add more trees to Wilmington’s urban tree canopy after it was severely damaged during Hurricane Florence.
Saturday’s planting is funded by a $2,450 Legacy Tree Fund grant from the NC Urban Forest Council, which has a statewide goal of planting 10,000 trees in 10 years. This project follows a planting of 50 trees in April, 2017 in the Houston Moore neighborhood and 40 trees in the Jervay and Rankin Terrace neighborhoods in October, 2017 (pictured at right).
