The Fire in the Pines Festival will be held at Halyburton Park on Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The festival aims to educate the public about the importance of fire in the long leaf pine ecosystem. The event is free and open to the public and will include: games, food, raffle prizes, live music, live animals, educational booths, scavenger hunt, face painting and hayrides. The controlled burn that normally occurs during the festival will not occur due to recent storms.
Parking and shuttle is available at 3147 S. 17th Street, across from the Cameron Art Museum. The festival is organized by the Nature Conservancy, North Carolina Forestry and the City of Wilmington Parks & Recreation Division. Learn more at http://www.fireinthepines.org.
